China Internet Censorship Goes Crazy

Are they going crazy? Before they would warn and order the webmasters to delete “harmful” information from their websites, sometimes they just blocked the website. But now thousand of websites would be blocked if they are so unlucky to be hosted by the same IDC company with a “harmful” website.

Yes, in the last month, most of the interactive website(including forum, guestbook, blog) in China were blocked by the Chinese authorities. Some believe this is because of the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China opening, the Chinese authorities want a social stability.

Chinese authorities often blocks an entire Web site, even if only parts of the site contain sensitive information. Just in the last month, more than thousand of dedicated server in HeNan TeleCom room and ShanTou TeleCom room were closed forcibly. thousand of sites were blocked included those on health, education, news, entertainment, religion. Also they use the Greate FireWall to blocks some great website like FeedBurner and Flickr.

This month, the Chinese authorities will finish their jobs, closing the rest of “illegal website”. So when the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is opening, the Chinese cyberspace will become a very harmonious and stable.

Not a country renowned for freedom of speech, China has nevertheless outdone itself with more internet censorship that would make them proud.

    Did they got crazy?

    Should be:

    Did they get crazy?

  2. Crazy on September 2nd, 2007 12:34 pm

No, they are not recently going crazy. They have been shamelessly crazy all the time.

  3. Moses on September 2nd, 2007 11:15 pm

Chinese people should do something to stop these crazy things now.

  4. Meson on September 3rd, 2007 12:43 am

@Moses, how can I do to keep the political dignitaries sane? And are anything we could do to stop them from being insane? Definitely NOT, what’s happing is just how the political might overrides anything in China, in a brutal and tragic way. I don’t know what bestows them with the power to uproot anything they don’t like. It’s modern world, we’re living as if we were back in the old tyrannies, like KuoMintang era, Qing dynasty or even earlier time. And now we ARE enslaved by what’s going on shamelessly in China. Shame on you: Chinese politics and the egomaniac governing party.

Did they got crazy? They begin to blocks all types of website…

Are they going crazy? Before they would warn and order the webmasters to delete “harmful” information from their websites, sometimes they just blocked the website. But now thousnads maybe more websites would be blocked if they are so unlucky to be hosted by the same IDC company with a “harmful” website .

最后一句,“Not a country renowned for freedom of speech” (中国)不是以言论自由闻名的国家,和下面的China has outdone itself语气不衔接,你应该是想说 famous for its crackdown of freedom of speech a long time, 接下面的outdone才说得通。 outdone以后完全不通,窃以为直接outdone itself one more time就可结束了。

My small website with a forum was blocked today. I do not know why. It is just a small professional site about robot and robotics. There are so many personal technic website, most of which own their forums. If the authorities block all these sites, how to develop our science technology? As a Chinese, whenever I think and talk about this, I feel thar we are pity and the authorities are woeful. Who will finally blocked our democracy and development? It is not us, but we know who it is.

  22. aj_young on September 18th, 2007 11:04 pm

This is insane, and every second day, I’m literally going crazy. I own an internet business and all these f*** do is to topede my business foundations everyday by blocking harmless websites like sourceforge and others, totally unrelated to anything China. Just these days I had to find out they blocked GoDaddy which is one of my main hosters. How the f*** am I supposed to work like this? I employ 10 Chinese programmers and designers and pay them well. If it’s keeping on like this, I might have to shut down and leave this business- (and human rights-) unfriendly place…

    Censorship Is Chinese Tradition.

They Block Thousands of IP Address mostly for PLEASURE. Upon Doing This, They Get Happy.

Most Chinese Don’t Care About Blockage, because Few of Them Can Speak English.

    Billions of People Are Brain-Washed.
